Next weekend will be all about the NFL Draft (or avoiding it, if that’s more your speed). But this weekend is full of fun family events around the Pittsburgh area, both big and small.
Whether you’re in the mood for a theater show, some fun at a local park, or need to stock up on summer clothing, this weekend has something for every family. Check out what’s happening around the ‘burgh:
Thursday, April 16- Sunday, April 19: Just Between Friends South Consignment Sale
This consignment sale, which has several locations around the Pittsburgh region, will be at the Monroeville convention center this weekend. It begins on Thursday evening with a presale event, followed by three days of shopping with free tickets for entry. On the final day, Sunday, most items that remain will be half-price from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Find more info here.
Friday, April 17: Animal Encounters at Schenley Park Visitors Center, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Stop by for a live animal meet-and-greet presented by local wildlife rescues and other local partners. This Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy drop-in program is free, and reservations are not required. Stop by Schenley Park’s awesome playground while you’re there! It’s a great playground for kids of all ages, including some obstacles that are fun for older kids. There are also stroller-friendly trails through the park.

Friday, April 17: Parents Night Out at Attack Theater, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Have a date night or dinner with a friend in Lawrenceville, and let Attack Theater do the babysitting. From 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., kids will celebrate our planet with an evening of eco-friendly fun. The night will be filled with nature-inspired dance games, upcycled art projects, and imaginative play centered on our big, beautiful world. Tickets are $30.
Saturday, April 18: “Fiddlesticks: Sing, Dance, Play” at Heinz Hall, 11:15 a.m.
What happens when you mix a cuddly cat, a stage full of musicians, and your favorite songs from movies, musicals, and TV? You have a concert for kids that is all about the joy of music and how it brings us together. Fiddlesticks is the perfect way to introduce kids to symphony with its zany, family-friendly shows. Tickets start at $24.

Saturday, April 18: Love Pop Kids Cruise with the Gateway Clipper Fleet, 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Join a pop princess and a dance bop duo who will be singing favorite K POP jams as they fight against evil with a friendly tiger sidekick. This two-hour tour includes a DJ and live entertainment. Tickets are $35, $25 for ages 3-12, $5 for ages 2 and younger.
Saturday, April 18: RecycleFest at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Celebrate Earth Month by exploring all of the ways we can help our planet. Learn about recycling through games and resources, get inspired by artists who use recycled materials in their work and meet local organizations who keep the trash out of landfills. You can also visit MuseumLab to see the Youth Recycled Art Showcase, featuring pieces created by students in grades K-12, and enjoy a reception. This event is included with museum admission and you can save on that, too: Bring 6 or more empty, clean aluminum cans and receive ONE FREE adult admission to the Children’s Museum and Recycle Fest. Limit one free adult admission per family.
Saturday, April 18: Medieval Magick Faire, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This all-ages event is where fantasy meets medieval fun. Guests will see live mini-shows, battle demos and more. You can also do some magical shopping at the All-American Field House in Monroeville. Tickets begin at $15 for kids 13 and up, and up to four kids under age 13 are free with each adult ticket. Find more info here.
Saturday, April 18: FEC 10 Community Celebration at the Frick Environmental Center, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Celebrate a decade of the Frick Environmental Center with an afternoon of nature-based activities, live music and local eats. In honor of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s 30th anniversary, there will be giveaways of limited-time park-branded merch, on a first-come-first-served basis. Register here to receive your merch. Admission to this celebration is free.

Sunday, April 19: “Hare & Tortoise” at the Byham Theater, 2 p.m.
Two unlikely friends, the Hare and the Tortoise, meet for the greatest race on earth! Enjoy a race with a nail-biting, seconds-ticking, medal-winning end. It will determine who is the quickest of all — the excitable Hare or the wise Tortoise? Tickets start at $17

Sunday, April 19: PNC Carousel Opening Day at Schenley Plaza, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The PNC Carousel whirls to life for another season of family fun. The day is filled with free carousel rides, lawn games galore and plenty of fun for all ages. Purchase your season pass online or visit the carousel for a variety of single-rider and day options.
