Pittston Area taxpayers deserve transparency

Editor: What exactly is written into the contracts of the Pittston Area School District’s top administrators and has the public been fully informed?

That question is now at the center of growing scrutiny after information received revealed provisions within the superintendent and assistant superintendent agreements that may not be widely known or clearly understood by the taxpayers of the school district. Furthermore, the superintendent’s salary was given a $10,000 raise beginning in January and 5% raise each year while he was on leave.

Because those contracts are funded by taxpayer dollars and govern the district’s highest-ranking officials, the issue is no longer just about technical language. It is about transparency, accountability and whether the public has been given a clear picture of how leadership roles are structured and protected.
