Jack Miles knows something about being a part of a winning tradition.
A former multi-sport high school standout at Dunmore High School and a longtime assistant football coach with several programs, most notably his alma mater, Miles will rely on his years of experience as he takes over as the next head coach at Scranton High School.
Miles, appointed by the school board, fills the vacancy left when Ray Dayton, who had been previously selected to replace Steve Shumbres, chose to return to his offensive coordinator position at Lackawanna College. Shumbres resigned after eight seasons as the head coach following the 2025 season.
Miles was a record-setting end and Hookey Reap award winner as a senior at Dunmore in a career that started as a freshman in 1977. He had 100 receptions in four seasons and was a Big 11 all-star playing for the Bucks and Hall of Fame coach Jack Henzes.
After his playing days, Miles served as an assistant coach at Dunmore from 1985, when the program had a 13-0 season that included an Eastern Conference Class A championship, to 1992.
Miles then joined the staff at North Pocono from 1995 to 1997, then moved to Scranton High School from 2002 to 2015. He served as an assistant and defensive coordinator for John Marichak and Mike Marichak. The Knights won the District 2 Class 4A championship in 2003 and 2011 and Lackawanna Football Conference Division I crowns in 2002, 2003, 2011, and 2012.
From 2022 to 2025, Miles returned as an assistant coach at Dunmore. The Bucks won the District 2 Class 2A championship and reached the PIAA semifinals in 2023 and played in the District 2 Class 2A final in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
