WILSON, Pa. – Over 1,000 people are without power in Northampton County on Thursday after a car crashed into a pole transformer.
Emergency units responded to what was originally dispatched as a vehicle fire in the area of Wood Avenue and North 17th Street just before 5:30 p.m., according to county dispatchers.
The impact caused a transformer to blow, downing overhead wires and knocking out power to 1,632 FirstEnergy customers in that area, officials say.
Fire officials say they had the flames out in about 15 minutes.
Wilson Borough Police and Met Ed Utility crews remain on the scene as of 6:30 p.m..
