WEST READING, Pa. – During a night out in West Reading, a mother and daughter were making the most of a warm April evening.

“I’m so happy that the weather has broke and we’re all able to get outside, be amongst one another, and just talk and have a good time,” said Nyesha Brownlee, a Penn State Berks student.

They made the trip from Harrisburg for College Night, walking from place to place, trying food and enjoying the West Reading energy.

“They give you a voucher and you can go to Let’s Taco Bout It, the Winnie (Tea) Bar, Chef David. I went to a couple of places just to try the food out, and it has been really good,” Brownlee said.

And her daughter already has a few favorites.

“I really love Let’s Taco Bout It, but Winnie’s mochi is really good. I really enjoyed this,” said Ariana Brownlee.

That same energy was felt all along Penn Avenue.

“It definitely provides a nice boost in sales…When the weather starts changing, it not only brightens the mood, but makes people want to go outside, and enjoy the businesses,” said Alex Alfaro of West Brew Izakaya.

Across Berks County, it was the same story. At Plum Creek, in Penn Township, families lining up for ice cream.

“It’s awesome to see so many people coming out and just enjoying a family-friendly atmosphere,” said Kiara Weaver of Plum Creek.

Everyone was taking full advantage of the heat, with softball in Bern Township.

“We’re wearing sweatshirts, and today, most of the guys and gals are wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts. So it’s a good hot summer day for a game of ball,” said Sean Moretti.

And at Blue Marsh Lake, boaters got an early start to the season.

“Looking forward to getting out here. It’s a nice day. It’s not real windy, not choppy. It’s very nice,” said Gary Robinson of Quakertown.
