MaryAnn Spott, 86, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was the widow of Frederick C. Spott who died November 14, 2013, and with whom she spent 52 years of a loving and joyful marriage.
Born and raised in Dunmore, MaryAnn was the daughter of Louis and Angeline Maglio. She was a proud graduate of Dunmore High School. She spent many years on the high school reunion committee and enjoyed meeting up with her old friends. Following high school, MaryAnn was employed as a secretary at Tobyhanna Army Depot and then at Roger Mattes Law. She was also very proud of a few stints at the Globe Store modeling the latest fashions.
MaryAnn was always impeccably dressed and enjoyed her mani/pedis, make-up sessions, and shopping excursions. Her skin care routine was the gold standard. Not just a pretty face, MaryAnn had a head for numbers and helped her husband build his engineering company, heavy equipment business, and she managed their rental properties, all while raising five children. She also was a very artistic and creative person and attended many local art classes where she perfected her craft. Many of her oil and water-color paintings were displayed in her home and she designed and made a gorgeous stained-glass window that was installed in the home she shared with her husband.
MaryAnn had a way of making everyone she met feel special with her unique way of engaging people. A gracious hostess and generous guest, MaryAnn loved sharing her culinary creations with family and friends. Her talent for baking, especially, was curated in the homes of her mother and her grandmother Manze. She learned how to roll, measure, spice, flavor, and design her scrumptious treats and confections from them and from her cherished aunt, Sue Manze, with whom she spent a great deal of her childhood.
MaryAnn’s greatest joy came from being a wife and mother. The time she spent with her family was most precious to her, especially with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children Fred (Rachel), Clarks Summit; Gigi, Dunmore; MaryAnn, San Antonio TX; Gretchen Dougherty, Blue Bell; Matt (Mira) Clarks Summit. Her adoring grandchildren are Dr. Mikayla Spott, Pittsburgh; Rebekah Spott, Clarks Summit; Jack Dougherty and companion, Mia Manfredi, Blue Bell; Flynn Dougherty, Wrightsville, NC; Daniel Spott, State College; and Frederick Spott, Clarks Summit.
MaryAnn is survived by sisters-in-law, Barbara Spott and Jeanne Barnes, and sisters Margaret Talamo and Suzanne Tielle.
MaryAnn was predeceased by brothers-in-law Tom Spott and Matt Spott, and sister-in-law, Ann Spott.
The family is deeply grateful for the unconditional care from Lina, Mercedes, Chris, Antoinette, and Lucy.
The family would also like to thank the Geisinger Scranton ER team, especially Dr. Sullivan, Nurse Jennifer, Nurse Bella and the fourth floor Nurses for their unwavering kindness and compassion not just to MaryAnn, but to her family.
A funeral service will take place Friday at 11:00 at Country Side Community Church, Clarks Summit. Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, 5 – 7 at the Carlucci-Golden DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
