(WHTM) – Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.2% in February, according to the state’s Department of Labor & Industry. It’s two-tenths of a point better than the national unemployment rate of 4.4%.
The state’s unemployment is down one-tenth of a point from the month prior, and one-tenth up from its rate in February 2025.

The state’s civilian labor force also improved in February, with the estimated number of residents working or looking for work up about 5,000 to 6,588,000. Employment was up by 7,000 workers, and unemployment declined by 2,000 workers from January.
Jobs did, however, decrease in 8 of the 11 industry supersectors in February, with the largest declines being in trade, transportation & utilities, and education & health services (-5,900 each).
Many of those supersectors are up in the state year-over-year, with the largest gain being in education and health services, adding 28,500 jobs.
