The Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter said Friday that it was helping five people in the wake of a house fire Thursday in Collingdale.
Fire crews were dispatched Thursday to the 1000 block of Broad Street about 3:15 p.m. for a fast-moving blaze that had begun to consume both sides of a duplex.
One house was evacuated, while it was unclear whether anyone had been home at the other. Fire radio traffic showed that searches of the houses by firefighters were negative.
The blaze quickly went to a second alarm. At the 10-minute mark, three lines were in service. By the 20-minute mark, the bulk of the fire was “knocked.”
The incident was placed under control at 3:50 p.m. Board up was sought for 15 windows and four doors.

The Red Cross’ Alana Mauger added, “Our Disaster Action Team volunteers responded quickly to the incident to meet the immediate needs of the affected family. This support may include comfort and emotional care, financial assistance, access to health services and referrals to local resources to help families begin their recovery.”
