Today, the Mercy Anchor Community Center held its “Stuff the Box” event, collecting donations for Goodwill. The partnership helps continue the mission of supporting women and families in transition at a critical time.
Just outside the Mercy Anchor Community Center, cars arrived full of donations to fill rows of boxes. The goal is simple; fill as many boxes as possible to support Goodwill, who in turn gives back to the Mercy Center for Women.
This effort comes at a time when homelessness and domestic violence are on the rise.
Director Jennie Hagerty stated that, “With homelessness on the rise and domestic violence and addiction, the community coming together, whether it’s gifts in kind or monetary donations, really makes a difference in someone’s journey.”
For every box filled, Goodwill donates $50 to the Mercy Center for Women which can help fund housing, education, and stability programs.
Donations from the public are sorted and boxed throughout the day. Organizers of the event stated that the partnership with Goodwill has helped continue the public’s effort in giving back to those directly in the community.
“We have our own local executive board, and everything stays in Pennsylvania.” Stated Phil Johnston Goodwill CEO of Northwest Pennsylvania.
With boxes filled to help Goodwill, the impact creates a positive chain reaction for nonprofits across the community all while helping women take their next steps forward.
