Large amounts of smoke billowed from an apartment building in Allegheny County Wednesday evening as crews worked to contain flames that broke out inside. Sky 4, Pittsburgh’s only news chopper, was over the scene along the 1600 block of Sumac Street in McKeesport just after 4 p.m. Massive flames and large amounts of white smoke were seen coming from the roof of the home. It appeared that multiple people had been evacuated from the building. Around 4:30 p.m., it appeared the roof of the structure had begun to partially collapse. The Washington Salvation Army said in a post on Facebook that service teams out of Washington City were deployed to the scene to offer mutual aid. The post said hot and cold drinks, as well as snacks, were available for first responders. The Washington Salvation Army said they were called to the fire, which was a 2-alarm. Sky 4, Pittsburgh’s only news chopper, was over the scene along the 1600 block of Sumac Street in McKeesport just after 4 p.m.
