READING, Pa. – An autopsy is expected this week as firefighters and police search for answers about a body that was found in a storage facility following a fire.
“We can glean a lot of information from the medical expert and that’s why we do attend those in concert with the Reading Police Department,” said Fire Marshal Jeremy Searfoss.
You can see the aftermath of that fire, which damaged storage units near Lancaster Avenue and Angelica Street in Reading.
“We’re in the process of doing some additional documentation and working with the Reading Police Department and criminal investigations unit we’ll attend the autopsy,” Searfoss.
According to firefighters the fire broke out around 3:30 Sunday morning — and crews discovered a body and dangerous items.
“Our firefighters were met with fireworks that were coming out of one unit and also a lot of storage of 20 pound propane cylinders,” Searfoss said.
As the temps continue to dip — firefighters say they see situations like this from time to time.
“These types of facilities are not designed for human occupancy or someone staying there for any length of time,” Searfoss said. “This unfortunately is not uncommon we’ve run into this several times over the last couple of years that we’ve had fires involving storage units where people were forced to live in those.”
