SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Art, culture, and creativity are taking over a local hotel this weekend: More than 200 tattoo artists from across the country and around the world are gathering in the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Scranton for the 15th Annual Electric City Tattoo Convention.

The event gives people a chance to get tattooed, meet artists, and connect with others who share the same interest.

Artists are traveling from places like Japan, Canada, and cities several hours away.

Guests can book appointments ahead of time or walk in and get tattooed on the spot, making the experience flexible, exciting, and personal.

“Tattooing as a whole is its own subculture, but then even when you start to get into tattooing, you start to break down into other cultures, and this is a meeting house for like 30 of those subcultures, you know,” Event Organizer Elijah Birtel told 28/22 News.

“All my friends are here. This is the best way to see all of my friends that are scattered across the country that I’ve made over the past 20 years tattooing, all in one space,” Jemola Addley from New York said.

Tickets are being sold at the door, and organizers say the convention continues through the weekend at the Hilton in downtown Scranton.
