SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A new addition in a local park is helping people reconnect with the region’s first residents. A crowd gathered at Nay Aug Park inside the Greenhouse Project as a new sign was unveiled, honoring the Lenape people and their deep connection to the land.
The sign highlights the history of the Lenape, the Indigenous people who lived in this region long before European colonization.
Students, locals celebrate annual block party
The event featured a cultural program followed by a dedication ceremony led by Lenape elder Curtis Zunigha.
Visitors learned about traditional practices like growing corn, beans, and squash, took part in storytelling, and planting Indigenous seeds.
