RICHMOND TWP., Pa. – One person was killed and another seriously injured in a violent collision in Richmond Township.
It happened Sunday just before 4 p.m. on Route 222 near Schuler Road.
According to Fleetwood Police, a car driving south on 222 drifted into the northbound lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
The driver of the striking vehicle, 18-year-old Connor Koontz of Fleetwood, was transported to Reading Hospital, where he died of his injuries several hours later. Authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Officials with the Fleetwood Area School District confirmed Koontz was a high school senior. The district says it will have additional counseling available for students if needed.
The driver of the car that was struck, a 30-year-old man who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
The roadway was closed in both directions for about an hour for accident reconstruction and cleanup.

Dear Fleetwood Families:
It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share some difficult news with our community. One of our twelfth-grade Fleetwood Area High School students, Connor Koontz, passed away last night as the result of a car accident.
In times like these, it is essential that we lean on one another and come together as a community. Our teachers and staff spoke with students today about this heartbreaking loss. School counselors and support services were on hand throughout the day for any student in need and will continue to be available over the coming days.
The school counseling department, and additional support staff, are available to provide assistance and resources for both students and staff members who may be affected by this tragedy. We encourage open communication and understanding as we navigate through this challenging period.
We encourage parents and guardians to have conversations with their children about Connor’s passing, providing comfort and guidance wherever possible. Please watch for any signs that your child may be struggling, and do not hesitate to contact the school if further support is needed.
