Philly runs on soft pretzels year-round—but on National Pretzel Day, things get a little extra tasty. Here are some local spots celebrating the holiday.

Philly Pretzel Factory

National Pretzel Day was established in 1983 by U.S. Congressman Robert S. Walker, and Philly Pretzel Factory has carried on the celebration since its founding in 1998 (by Dan DiZio and Len Lehman.) What began as a single shop in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood has grown into a nationwide brand with over 160 locations across 12 states.

For its 17th consecutive year, the Philly Pretzel Factory is celebrating the occasion by giving away more than 150,000 free pretzels—no purchase necessary. The free treats will be available at participating stores and Walmart locations (excluding transportation and entertainment venues) and each guest gets one. Additionally, customers who use the brand’s mobile app will earn double points on any purchases made that day.

Auntie Anne’s

Auntie Anne’s is marking the celebration with a treat for Rewards Members: Any member who uses the app this Sunday will get either a free Original or Cinnamon Sugar pretzel.

Wetzel’s Pretzels

Wetzel’s Pretzels (located inside the Fashion District) is putting its own spin on National Pretzel Day this year by dubbing it “National Wetzel Day” and giving fans a salty reason to celebrate. On Sunday, April 26, the brand is offering a free original pretzel to every guest who stops by between 3 p.m. and closing—no purchase required. The promotion is part of their “Wetz Fest” theme, inspired by the energy of a music festival, so it’ll be complete with a fun, upbeat atmosphere.

“National Wetzel Day is our favorite day of the year because it gives us a chance to celebrate the fans who show up for us all year long,” said Sarah Curtis, Head of Marketing for Wetzel’s Pretzels. “This year, Wetz Fest brings even more energy to the occasion with music festival-inspired fun and, of course, free pretzels. This pick is for anyone in New Jersey or headed over the bridge on Sunday. This family-owned spot dons menu items like pretzel bagels, bao buns and breakfast sandwiches and for the holiday, A&A is also offering a free mini pretzel for all customers.

The Green Turtle

The Green Turtle has a couple of locations in Delaware, and for National Pretzel Day this year, the venues will be offering 50% off their Bavarian pretzel sticks. While at the locales, visitors can also try treats like rockfish bites, crab dip, a blackened chicken Caesar wrap, shrimp fiesta tacos, funnel cake fries and more.
