A 41-year-old Long Pond man faces charges after state police found drugs in his vehicle following a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Lackawanna County, according to a criminal complaint,
Trooper Christopher Isbitski stopped a 2016 Infiniti GX8 with a New York registration around 3:31 p.m. along Interstate 81 in Greenfield Twp. for a suspended registration and a following-too-closely violation, police said.
Police identified the driver and registered owner of the vehicle as Luis Eduardo Jimenez, according to the criminal complaint.
Jimenez admitted that he did not have insurance on the vehicle, troopers said.
After being granted consent to search the vehicle, troopers found a kilogram of cocaine and four bags of suspected cocaine inside a speaker in the car, according to the criminal complaint.
Field tests of the substance in the containers yielded a positive indication for the presence of cocaine, troopers said.
Jimenez, 201 Victory Lane, acknowledged ownership of the cocaine during a recorded interview and also provided a written statement, police said.
Police charged Jimenez with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration and following too closely.
As of Monday, Jimenez remained at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing for Jimenez is scheduled for April 30 at 9:45 a.m..
