In recent years, the Reading Eagle has had numerous articles about the confiscation of illegal weapons, most featuring Berks County District Attorney John Adams. I am thankful for what local law enforcement is doing.
Popular attention was long focused on Congress taking action along the lines of new gun control laws. But existing laws would have been sufficient to prevent many spotlighted gun crimes, had those laws been enforced.
News only covers what actually took place. We can only imagine how many gun crimes were prevented thanks to local law enforcement. It is not possible to 100% enforce every gun law on the books. But even what is possible is not always acted on. Kudos to local law enforcement.
On a related topic, when Jesse Elks shot state police Cpl. Tim O’Connor in Chester County, the trooper’s family was interviewed about the tragedy. There were two victims shot by Elks that day, the other being himself. I didn’t see anything about the family of Jesse Elks, who must have also been mourning.
