BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The bomb squad was called to a Bethlehem neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

Police, fire crews and the bomb squad responded to an incident in the 700 block of E. Washington Avenue, near Media Street, just before 4:30 p.m.

Some homes on East Washington Avenue were evacuated and the area was blocked off to traffic, according to emergency dispatchers.

Emergency responders started clearing the scene shortly before 6:30 p.m. and East Washington Avenue was reopened. 

Police remained on scene on Radclyffe Street for hours. Investigators were seen going in and out of a home there, and police tape blocked off the area.

The scene was in the vicinity of Stefko Blvd. in Bethlehem.

Authorities have not yet released further details about what prompted the response.
