BETHLEHEM, Pa. – People in our region are doing their part to go green for Earth Day.

In Northampton County, Bethlehem South Nursing and Rehab hosted a tree-planting event in the rose garden.

Residents were invited to take part.

Organizers say they worked with the city’s Urban Forestry Bureau to make the event happen.

“The residents were very excited and happy and feel like they’re really giving back and feel like they have a sense of purpose,” said John Lucas, Life Enrichment Director at Bethlehem South Nursing and Rehab.

“This is to improve on the quality of life and care that we provide in our center, it’s nice to get our residents involved in everything that we do,” said Bethlehem South Nursing and Rehab Administrator Joseph Shedid.

Organizers say they hope the tree cleans the air, provides shade, and shelters wildlife for years to come.
