The Jefferson Educational Society and the Penn State Master Gardeners of Erie County will create unique gardens in the 3200 block of State Street.

The gardens will be named the Lincoln Family Gardens in hopes to honor Mary Lincoln Brock and her family who has been a longtime supporter of the Jefferson society. These gardens will house native plants, trees, shrubs, and a presentation space that will further support Jefferson programming.

The site plan developed by Weiss Earley Landscape Design and Contracting LLC along with a committee of Jeffersons’ and Master Gardener representatives have included a patio, several walkways, seating walls, low volt landscape lighting, and plans for the future garden plots in their future development plans.

There will be eight garden plots within a central space which will all be designed by the Master Gardeners. The gardens will be nearly a block long and will be completed in the open lawn areas just off the Jefferson Hall south of 33rd street. From State Street they are just east to the Jefferson parking lot.

Construction will begin this spring and is anticipated to have a grand opening in early September. Those looking to sponsor construction can sponsor bricks, seat wall caps, trees, garden beds, and more. Details can be found online here.
