A big first inning in each game helped the Lackawanna College softball team sweep a NJCAA Region 19 Division II doubleheader from Sussex County Community College on Tuesday at Scranton High School.
The Lady Falcons scored 11 times in the first inning of Game 1 en route to a 19-0 win. They then had eight runs in the first inning of Game 2 for a 12-4 victory. Both games went five innings.
Mekenzie Dineen had two hits and three RBIs for Lackawanna in the opener. Riley Knott and Laniah Tasker each added two hits and two RBIs. Gracie Sokol and Haleigh Mazol both contributed two hits and one RBI. Mekenzie Revere and Abigail Yenalevitch combined on a one-hitter.
In the nightcap, Kyleah Edwards was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Ayahna Fleisher chipped in two hits and two RBIs, while Sokol, Mazol, Arianna Gaylord and Tori May all finished with two hits and one RBI for the Lady Falcons (34-13 overall, 15-5 region).
Marywood 18, PSU-Schuylkill 1; PSU-Schuylkill 8, Marywood 4: At Schuylkill Haven, Marywood University split a nonconference doubleheader with Penn State-Schuylkill.
Amber Little was 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs for Marywood in the opener. Tori Para homered among her two hits and also had five RBIs. Kat Davis, Marley Sarafinko and Marissa Hoffman each had two hits and two RBIs and Brianna Voyer had two hits.
Para, Little and Mia Antolino each had multiple hits in the second game for the Pacers (17-13). Little had two RBIs.
Lebanon Valley 9, Scranton 5; Lebanon Valley 3, Scranton 2 (8 inn.): At Magis Field, the University of Scranton lost a nonconference doubleheader to Lebanon Valley College.
Mollie Ferreira had a double, home run and four RBIs in the first game for Scranton.
Ferreira also had two hits, including a double, in the second game. Celia Totaro led the Royals (16-17) with three hits and Gianna Muliero had two RBIs.
