SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County is marking Earth Day with hands-on efforts across Scranton. On Wednesday, the county hosted an information fair inside the government center, while volunteers cleaned up around the courthouse, picking up trash and cigarette butts.
The county says it’s all about raising awareness and encouraging small actions that make a big difference.

“A lot of the time always get people saying to us they didn’t know that our office existed until we come out, and we’re like, ‘Hey, we’re the environmental office,’” Education Specialist Markieann Muncie explained.
The effort continues this weekend with a county Earth Day event Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McDade Park.
