READING, Pa. – The Berks County Commissioners voted Thursday to award a $734,714 contract to J. Phillips Excavating, Lenhartsville, for the replacement of the Berks Road Bridge.

The project involves the removal and replacement of the existing Berks Road Bridge, which is over an unnamed tributary to Plum Creek.

The existing structure will be replaced with a cast-in-place culvert.

The bridge in Bern Township is owned by the county and is a main access to Camp Joy, near Leesport.

In other business, the commissioners appointed:

John Moser as assistant director of Workforce Development Board, effective May 13 at an annual salary of $97,000.

Stephanie Smith to Interim Warden at the County Jail, effective May 8 at an annual rate of $118,560.

Julia Levan as assistant public defender in the Public Defender’s Office, effective May 6 at an annual salary of $68,500.

Sally Blondet Mojica, Reading, to the Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority and the South Central Transit to fill an unexpired term ending on Dec. 31, 2028.

Tabitha Kramer, Mohrsville, to the Berks County Children and Youth Services Advisory Board to fill an unexpired term ending on Dec. 31, 2027.
