Upper Darby’s 4 x 400 relay remains a force, adding a Suburban Central title at Penn Relays on Thursday.
The team of Ovviya Lauderdale, Tajai Powell, Laila Fofana and Kadi Golembiewski clocked in at 3:55.27 at Franklin Field to win the race and qualify for Friday’s Philadelphia Area 4 x 400. Golembiewski moved them from third to first with a 55.53 anchor leg that was the second-fastest in the field.
Second was Ridley in 3:56.41 with the squad of Anaiya Gregory, Maya Bethrant, Paula Onyewuchi and Joy Onyewuchi. The Green Raiders end up as the first alternate in the 12-team Philly area race. Lower Merion was third, and Springfield was the fourth team to break four minutes in 3:59.33 in the Central race.
The Royals’ time was 45th out of the more than 550 teams competing and eighth among Pennsylvania schools. Ridley was 50th overall and 11th among Pa. squads.
Episcopal Academy finished third in the Philadelphia Academic 4×400 relay at 3:58.62 with the team of Ryann Newcomb, Ava Cavanaugh, Jenille Goring and Olivia Melson. The race was won by Penn Charter in 3:54.41.
EA’s time was 70th overall and 16th among PA squads.
Archbishop Carroll finished third in the Catholic League 4 x 400, with Bonner & Prendergast sixth.
Penncrest’s 4 x 100 relay finished 38th in prelims in 48.96 with the team of Molly Quinn, Daphne Calliagas, Regina Zizivily and Maddux Morgan.
Springfield finished 16th overall in the 4 x 800 prelims, the squad of Bridget Dawson, Darsana Bhatta, Lizzie Angelopoulos and Makayla Corcoran going 9:21.93. Only three Pennsylvania teams were quicker. Penncrest was 44th, Ridley 49th.
