Gettysburg senior receives scholarship from Pennsylvania township officials

(WHTM) — A local high schooler was recognized by Pennsylvania’s township officials earlier this week.

Landon Blocher, a senior at Gettysburg Area, received one of two Local Government Achievement scholarships from the Pennsylvania Association of Township Supervisors.

The $1,500 scholarship was presented before township officials from across the state at the annual PSATS conference in Hershey.

“Landon was recognized among scores of applicants from across the commonwealth,” said PSATS Executive Director Dave Sanko. “These scholarship opportunities were created to increase awareness and involvement in local government among students in Pennsylvania schools. Winners this year demonstrate the outstanding qualities that prove the next generation will be ready to step up and serve our communities in the future.”

He participates in National Honor Society and varsity golf. He is a junior firefighter with the Gettysburg Fire Department and volunteers for several department functions throughout the year, which has partnered Blocher with State Police, Gettysburg and Cumberland Township Police, the National Parks Service, and more.

Upon graduation, he plans to attend Elizabethtown College.
