The Erie Labor Temple has stood on State Street for more than 100 years, and now the building is entering a new chapter in its history.

Local craftsman Edward Kranz has a vision to turn the building into a creative hub for local artists.

His plans are to rent out spaces in the three-story building to professional artists and creative businesses, with rooms roughly ranging from $250 to $1,000 a month.

There’s still a lot of work to go, but the craftsman is looking to offer debate-style events on local topics, a cozy reading room, a gallery space on the temple’s top floor, and more.

“I want this to be a very alive, vibrant, artist culture community where people can come in. If they want to just read a book, they can sit down and read a book. If they want to pick up an instrument, that’s great. If they need a studio space, they have a studio space,” said Edward Kranz, the Founder of the Erie Labor Temple.

Kranz said anyone interested in learning more can stop by the building at 1701 State Street or check out their social media and website.
