Marywood University scored the final nine goals to pull away to a 15-6 victory over Marymount University in the Atlantic East Conference women’s lacrosse semifinals Saturday.

Marymount, defending Atlantic East champion and the No. 3 seed, scored in the opening minute of the second half to tie the game, 6-6. But the Marywood defense held the Saints scoreless for the final 29 minutes.

Kaitlyn Smith led the No. 2-seeded Pacers (11-6) with five goals, two assists and nine draw controls. Avery Meighan added four goals, four assists, five ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Danica Kelly netted three goals, Natalie Yilanjian scored twice and Alivia Backes had a goal and an assist. Goalie Jenna Scala made five saves, including three on key free-position attempts.

With her seven points, Smith has 113, tying the program single-season points record. Meighan’s five ground balls give her 78, tying that single-season program record.

In the final, Marywood plays at No. 1 seed Neumann University on May 2 at 1 p.m. Neumann (8-8) advanced with a 16-2 win in its semifinal over Immaculata University. It will be the seventh conference-championship game appearance for the Pacers and third in the Atlantic East (2019, 2023). They also reached the Colonial States Athletic Conference final in 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2018. They are seeking their first title.

Men’s lacrosse

At Arlington, Virginia, Marywood University lost to top-seeded Marymount University, 11-5, in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals.

Alexander Votra had two goals for the Pacers. Ricky Strobel, Shaun Howey and Owen Kelly added one goal apiece. Joseph Keller had an assist and goalie Colin Trainor had eight saves.

Women’s tennis

At Washington, D.C., the University of Scranton lost its Landmark Conference regular-season finale to Catholic University, 4-2.

Sarah Crawford won at No. 1 singles and Erin O’Mara at No. 3 singles for the Royals (8-1 league, 12-3 overall), who will be the No. 1 seed for the conference playoffs. They will host the winner of the first-round match between No. 4 Drew University and No. 5 Wilkes University in the semifinals Thursday at Royal Courts.

Men’s tennis

At Washington, D.C., the University of Scranton finished its regular season with a 6-1 loss to Catholic University in a Landmark Conference match.

Lucas Kotcho won at No. 2 singles to account for the lone point for the Royals (5-4, 8-10).

Women’s golf

At Shawnee-on-Delaware, the University of Scranton is in fifth place out of 10 teams with a score of 381 after the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships at Shawnee Golf Course. Catholic University leads with 335. Susquehanna University is second with 342, Drew University third with 346 and Elizabethtown College fourth with 379.

Emily Davis led Scranton with a 93. Lidia Marranca was next for the Royals with a 95, including a birdie on the par-4 12th hole. Mara Bilenski shot 96, Cassandra Weir carded 97 and Julia Downing had a 99.

The second and final round is scheduled for Sunday.

Men’s golf

At Shawnee-on-Delaware, the University of Scranton is seventh out of 10 teams with a score of 323 after the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships at Shawnee Golf Course. Drew University leads with a 301. Moravian University is second with 306 and Juniata College third with 312.

Abington Heights grad Cade Kelleher had two birdies in his round of 7-over 79 to lead the Royals. Jack Novis and Richard Essen each shot 80. Essen also had two birdies and was 2-over 38 on the back nine. Juliano Nieto added an 84 and Gehrig Shannon finished with a 93.

The second and final round is scheduled for Sunday.

Men’s track and field

At Shippensburg, Lackawanna Trail grad Brayden Clarke finished third in the 3,000 meters in 9:00.68 to lead the University of Scranton at the Paul Kaiser Classic.

Angel Perez was fourth in the 3,000 meters in 9:09.64 and Michael Allardyce fifth in 9:19.14.

Owen Pollock placed eighth in the 200 meters in 22.57 seconds. Joe Castellano took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.96 and Aedan Potenza was 14th in the hammer throw at 40.44 meters.

Monarch Open: At Wilkes-Barre, Keystone College competed at the King’s College Monarch Open. Marquez Strickland led the Giants with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters in 11.98 seconds, eighth in the 200 meters in 24.29 and fifth in the 400 meters in 55.28.

Shateek Humbert added a 14th-place finish in the 200 in 27.48. Ayzeem Hassan took third in the discus at 34.67 meters. Nathan Barragan was sixth in the long jump at 5.53 meters, while Jahvani Vasquez placed seventh in the high jump at 1.62 meters and eighth in the long jump.

Women’s track and field

At Shippensburg, Afua Apau won the shot put with a program-record heave of 12.50 meters, while Peyton Fox set a pair of school records to highlight the University of Scranton’s performance at the Paul Kaiser Classic.

Fox finished second in the hammer throw at 50.69 meters and fourth in the discus at 39.94 meters.

On the track, Olivia Miller won the 400 meters in 58.60 and Holy Cross graduate Molly White captured the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.05. Callie Gorman was third in the 3,000 meters in 10:50.47, Emily Hopkins sixth in the 1,500 meters in 4:50.27 and Ella Widkidensky 10th in the 200 meters in 26.90. Also, Gretchen Haray tied for eighth in the high jump at 1.40 meters.

Monarch Open: At Wilkes-Barre, Keystone College competed at the King’s College Monarch Open. Indya Rogers led the Lady Giants, running a personal-best 14.87 seconds in the 100 meters to finish eighth. Jamilah Higgins was ninth in the 200 meters in 31.45 and runnerup in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.42 seconds.
