The Pittsburgh Steelers are re-signing veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry for the 2026, according to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Lowry, 31, spent the last two seasons with the Steelers, but missed the entire 2025 campaign with a training camp knee injury.
“During a training camp practice last week I sustained an ACL injury that will likely end my season,” Lowry wrote on social media a week after the injury. “Hard to comprehend the thoughts and emotions I have felt since then. Heartbroken I won’t get to fully experience the highs and lows of an NFL season with a group I love going to work with. The risks associated with this game and the unique aspect of a football team are what make this sport like no other.
“I’m completely resolved to turn this negative into a positive with gratitude each step of the way.”

In 2024, Lowry appeared in 12 games and made one start for the Steelers. He recorded five tackles, one sack, one quarterback hit and defended one pass.
The Steelers have most of their 2025 defensive line returning, with Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, Esezi Otomewo and Logan Lee all under contract for 2026. Daniel Ekaule and Isaiahh Loudermilk, who also finished the 2025 season on the injured reserve list, also remain unsigned.
In addition to bringing back the above six players, the Steelers also signed veteran free agent Sebastian Joseph-Day earlier this offseason and selected Notre Dame defensive tackle Gabriel Rubio with the club’s sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday.
