Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who grew up in North Scranton, became the first Alaskan to visit the Everhart Museum’s exhibit on “The Office” sitcom, on Saturday, thus completing the museum’s goal of getting at least one visitor to the exhibit from each of the 50 states in the nation, museum CEO Tim Holmes said.

“Our 1st Alaskan visitor to The Office Exhibition was the Governor of Alaska! Now we’ve officially had visitors from ALL 50 states since we opened the exhibit 6 months ago,” Holmes said in a statement.

The “Office” exhibit of props and costumes from the sitcom opened Sept. 3 at the Everhart in Nay Aug Park. Set at the fictional Dunder-Mifflin paper company in Scranton, “The Office” ran for nine seasons, from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, but has since lived on and grown in popularity through reruns, streaming platforms and social media that have captured new generations of fans.

Dunleavy, a son of the late Edward and Rose Dunleavy of Scranton, is a 1979 graduate of the former Scranton Central High School and 1983 graduate of College Misericordia. He moved to Alaska after graduating and had a career there in education as a teacher, principal and superintendent. He also served as a state senator in Alaska from January 2013 to January 2018. A Republican, Dunleavy won the Alaska gubernatorial seat in 2018, was reelected in 2022 and is serving in his final, term-limited year.
