A prank at a local school prompted a brief safety alert at Iroquois High School.
According to the district, a group of former students wearing gaiters peeked into a classroom as a joke directed at a friend on April 23. Superintendent Shane Murray said a current student was involved in the incident and has been suspended.
A staff member, concerned by the unidentified individuals, initiated a stay‑in‑place order to ensure students could safely leave the building. School officials and law enforcement responded quickly and confirmed there was no threat.
In a statement posted on the district’s website, officials said:
“This afternoon a staff member had concerns about an unidentifiable group of individuals outside of the school and initiated a stay‑in‑place notification to ensure that students could depart safely for the day. School personnel and law enforcement acted quickly to identify the individuals and once it was determined that there was no additional threat to student safety, students were released to depart for the day. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we prioritize student safety.”
Superintendent Murray added that the district has no concerns about an additional threat on Monday, April 27.
