PennDOT’s traffic bulletin resumes this week as construction season ramps up. The bulletin lists all long-term and short-term projects in northeastern PA.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — It is a busy week inside PennDOT’s traffic management center in Dunmore. We asked crews to pull up cameras of some problem areas, and they told us to take our pick. Construction season is its very own season in Pennsylvania, and now that it is underway, PennDOT’s traffic bulletin is back this week.

“It recently went live. It’s construction season, you’re going to see a lot of road work. It’s that extra tool that people can check just to plan ahead, give themselves extra time in case there are any traffic restrictions,” said Elizabeth Fabri, PennDOT District 4.

PennDOT’s traffic bulletin was temporarily suspended over the winter months, but now that so many long-term and short-term projects are going on, the list is back and can be found on PennDOT’s website.

“So our traffic bulletin is on our website, it’s a resource used so that we can, in real time, change and edit road work that’s going on. So any planned road work for the week will be on there, if there’s any changes due to weather, time changes, that’s the perfect resource to check it out,” said Fabri.

PennDOT crews say being aware of the work that is being done is obviously a great way to avoid closures and traffic during your commute. But they say it’s a safety thing, too; it’s important to know when and where workers will be.

“A lot going on, especially on 81. So this is a great resource to use. As you’re scrolling through, you can find out exactly which sections, which exits,” Fabri said.

The traffic bulletin will also list if it’s a lane restriction or closure, as well as the dates and times of the work being done.

“If it’s starting on Monday, or if it’s going Monday through Friday, you’ll be able to see the times to avoid,” she added.

And lastly, the bulletin lists what kind of work is being done. The warmer weather means asphalt plants are open for the season, which also means potholes are being filled.

“As you’re going through the traffic bulletin, you are going to see a lot of crack sealing and different pothole patching, things like that, now that crews are out and about, they’re going to be covering a lot of those issues that we saw with the roads, potholes, and things like that with out a freeze-thaw cycle,” Fabri said.

The traffic bulletin lists daily and weekly short-term projects, but also the long-term ones, like bridge replacement projects. You can find the traffic bulletin by clicking here.

PennDOT crews say you can also find updated traffic and crash information on 511pa.com.
