ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown and Salisbury Township Police partnered up over the weekend to crack down on speeding on trouble roads with histories of fast cars and violent crashes.
Police were clocking speeds on Fish Hatchery Rd. and E. Susquehanna St., where they said drivers have been going way too fast. But you don’t need to tell the people who live there.
“I call it ‘sus’. It’s ‘Sus Street’ for Susquehanna, because there’s always something sus going on, between the speeding, people walking,” said resident Danielle Tate.
As if to prove Tate’s point, we caught a guy speeding on camera while we were speaking with her. Tate said it happens all the time, and it’s a danger to her and her neighbors.
“Both of these corner houses have been hit by cars at a high speed,” said Tate.
Tate said she even saw someone killed right in front of her house.
“He went right into this brick wall here, and the guy ran out of the car, because he wasn’t on scene, but his friend in the passenger seat was, he was deceased,” said Tate.
Police said, on E. Susquehanna St. and Fish Hatchery Rd., they clocked drivers going more than 60 miles an hour. Both roads are only marked for 35.

Salisbury Police said they got funding for the speed enforcement from several state grants, and they use crash data and public complaints to figure out where to place officers. In a statement, they said in-part:
“With traffic in the Lehigh Valley being so heavy and steadily increasing, it’s essential that we continue working diligently to improve roadway safety.”
Tate said, that’s good news to her.
“Salisbury Police, just keep what you’re doing,” said Tate. “We’ll definitely take any help we can get, and I’m sure all of us will appreciate that.”
Police said this past weekend’s enforcement effort was just the beginning. They plan to have more officers patrolling E. Susquehanna St. and Fish Hatchery Rd. moving forward.
