ARCHBALD, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Before Monday’s hearing on the proposed Archbald power plant, community members, including some of the youngest residents, took action in a unique way.
Families gathered outside Valley View High School, where children hosted a lemonade stand to raise money for a legal fund opposing the project.
Everything was offered for free, with donations encouraged.
Organizers say it’s part of a growing grassroots effort, noting a GoFundMe tied to the cause has already raised more than 44-thousand dollars.
They also say involving kids is intentional, giving them a chance to be part of the conversation about changes in their community.
“The effects that are going to be felt aren’t today, they’re not tomorrow—they’re going to be when they’re continuing education right here. They’re going to have to travel past it, hear it, and breathe that,” said Jillian Baldan.

Organizers say the fundraiser is just one of several efforts to support ongoing legal challenges tied to proposed developments in the borough.
