UPPER DARBY, PA – The Hellenic Presidential Guard, the Evzones, visited St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby on April 23. The community’s presiding priest, Fr. Alexandros Kaitidis posted on social media about the visit, noting that it was “a great honor for the community of St. Demetrios.”
He added that the event was very moving and about 80 students of the Greek School and their parents who participated had the opportunity to meet the Evzones up close, watch their presentation, and ask questions.
The children spoke in Greek during the Q&A session and then showed their gratitude by singing the march ‘Macedonia Xakousti’. Their performance moved all those present.

“We would like to express our warm thanks to the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley for its support and contribution to the realization of this special event,” Fr. Kaitidis said in his post, adding that the Greek flag-raising ceremony at City Hall in Philadelphia was taking place on April 24 at noon and the Philadelphia Greek Independence Parade on Sunday, April 26, 2 PM.
