Every fall, hundreds of people head to Presque Isle State Park for the Erie County Crop Hunger Walk, raising money to help fight hunger.
On April 28, folks on the front lines of that hunger fight got a financial boost. The annual Crop Walk luncheon brought representatives from local food pantries together.
It’s all to distribute the funds raised at last year’s record-breaking 50th annual walk at the Peninsula. They raised more than $130,000, with 25% of that money staying here, and the rest going to fight hunger globally through the Church World Service organization.
Crop Walk Coordinator Jim Haas said, “We tried to publicize the 50th walk, which made it special, and people just really responded. I think a lot of people in our country are struggling and others of us know that with cuts to the SNAP benefits and stuff, that probably encouraged more people to come out and be supportive as well.”
The 2025 Erie County Crop Hunger Walk ranked 5th in the country in terms of money raised, and number one out of more than 50 walks in Pennsylvania.
