EASTON, Pa. – A chic event space coming soon to Northampton County is harkening back 100 years to an intoxicating chapter of the property’s past life, when it was a hot spot for sipping drinks and socializing with friends during the Prohibition era.

Austin and his husband, Aaron Coleman, purchased the Northampton Street property in 2024 and have spent the past couple of years extensively renovating it.
The new venue will be available for a wide variety of private events, such as birthday, anniversary and graduations celebrations, and Austin and Coleman also plan to host some ticketed community events.
“We’re very excited for this new venture,” Austin said.
“Where else in the tri-state can you rent your own speakeasy? So, you’ll be able to have your parties, bridal showers, business luncheons and more here. We’re going to partner with local Easton restaurants to do the catering, and then we’ll also have the bar downstairs.”

The forthcoming venue, which can accommodate approximately 60 guests, will feature a main floor dining room with black-and-white marble flooring, elegant chandeliers and a coffered ceiling.
Downstairs, a speakeasy bar and lounge will feature a decades-old backbar – featuring arched mirrors and intricate wood trim – from a former Easton bar, Austin said.
Guests will be able to enjoy drinks at the bar, and additional seating will be available at surrounding cocktail tables.
The space also will feature elegant pendant lighting, white columns and a fireplace.
The lower-level area once housed an actual speakeasy in the 1920s, Austin said.
A century ago, speakeasy guests would enter through a secret entrance – a door connecting to a neighboring property, Austin said.

“People would go into their basement, sneak across and drink in the room that we’re now calling our speakeasy,” Austin said.
“The city eventually made them block up the entrance because they’re two different lots, but around the corner of the door, there’s people who had signed and etched their names into it.”
Coleman and Austin also operate Platinum Star Cleaning, a business offering high-quality, professional cleaning services throughout the Lehigh Valley, at the same Easton property.
Over the past couple of years, they’ve extensively updated the property to include new staircases, an HVAC system and more.

Work on the main-floor dining room and lower-level speakeasy is mostly complete, with only trim work, some additional painting and a few other finishing touches left to complete, Austin said.
“It’s been a huge renovation, but it’s also been our passion,” Austin said.
“I’m an architect. So, I did the drawings, and we did the designs together. It’s been a fun project, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it. We were really looking to target people who just want to come out and have a really nice, glam evening and maybe step back into time.”
