ERIE — Erie County Executive Christina Vogel announced today that the Erie County Courthouse will be illuminated in red during the “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” campaign, held April 26 through May 3, 2026, in honor of fallen firefighters and their families.
The illumination is part of a nationwide tribute coordinated by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which encourages communities across the country to light homes, businesses, fire stations, and public buildings in red during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
The Memorial Weekend, observed May 1 through May 3, 2026, honors firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and recognizes the families they leave behind.
“The red lighting of the Erie County Courthouse is a visible symbol of our community’s gratitude, respect, and remembrance,” said County Executive Christina Vogel. “It is a simple but powerful way to ensure that the sacrifices of our fallen firefighters are never forgotten.”
The “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” campaign began in 2017 as part of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s 25th anniversary and has grown into a nationwide movement of remembrance and unity.
Erie County is encouraging residents, businesses, fire departments, and community organizations to participate by lighting their homes and buildings in red throughout the week of April 26 through May 3, 2026.
The Erie County Courthouse will serve as a central symbol of remembrance during the campaign, standing as a visible reminder of the courage and sacrifice of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
