Preparations for the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon are in full swing, with road closures and parking restrictions planned across downtown Pittsburgh this weekend.The marathon’s 26.2-mile course through Pittsburgh, along with several shorter routes, will be clearly marked come Sunday morning, but for now, organizers are urging residents and visitors to review the course map and parking restrictions ahead of time.”Pay attention to the course,” said Brian Schmidt, senior vice president of operations for P3R, the marathon’s organizer.Schmidt emphasized the importance of adhering to road closure and no-parking signs to avoid vehicle towing.”Can’t stress enough. Last thing we want to do on race weekend is tow anyone’s car,” Schmidt said.Boulevard of the Allies from Wood Street to Stanwix Street will be the first section to close and the last to reopen. Additional road closures will begin Saturday morning, with parking restrictions starting at 6:30 a.m. on the 5K course, which is primarily on the North Side. At 10 p.m. Saturday, parking restrictions will extend to the full marathon course.Construction of the finish line festival at Point State Park will begin Wednesday. Schmidt said P3R is working closely with the NFL to ensure a smooth transition following draft weekend activities at the park.”We work very closely with the NFL, with One Team, who is operating out of the park with the NFL (Draft) Experience, to coordinate their move out as we move in. It’s been a great partnership throughout. Pretty much starting tomorrow, we have the city side lawn of the park. They’re finishing up over on the fountain side,” Schmidt said.Schmidt advised attendees to plan their travel to downtown Pittsburgh in advance, whether they are running or cheering on participants. He noted that many parking garages will remain accessible despite the closures.
