State Senator Dan Laughlin announced that Aimee’s Law, a proposal to create a public animal abuse registry, has officially received a bill number, Senate Bill 1311. Laughlin says his goal is to advance the legislation to the governor’s desk in hopes of preventing similar cases from happening to other animals.
The bill is named after Aimee, a husky who was left for dead beneath an underpass and later died after her body could not withstand the extreme conditions she endured.
Her owners were charged, and the case is moving forward to trial. Supporters say Aimee’s Law would take accountability a step further by creating a public animal abuse registry and strengthening consequences for animal abuse crimes.
