CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Weeks after dozens of dogs were rescued from a home in Spring Township, the Centre County sheriff’s office has formally filed charges against a Bellefonte woman.

Investigators say 56-year-old Denise Krape is accused of neglecting to care for the animals, many of which were found emaciated and severely flea-infested at her Axemann Road home in early March.

According to the affidavit, police say Krape reportedly contacted authorities in late February, requesting that law enforcement come to her home so she could surrender ten of the dogs.

When officers visited her home just a couple weeks later, investigators say they reportedly found the animals living in deplorable conditions.

Authorities say a total of 42 mix-breed dogs — both adults and puppies — were surrendered to the Centre County PAWS organization, which has since helped the animals recover from the alleged abuse and mistreatment.

According to veterinary reports, investigators say several of the dogs suffered various injuries while in Krape’s possession, including one with a fractured tail and another with a puncture wound to its shoulder.

Authorities allege that Krape not only failed to properly provide the injured animals with necessary medical care, but that she also reportedly failed to provide them with access to a “clean and sanitary shelter.”

Online court records show that Krape is facing nearly 50 counts of various charges — headlined by misdemeanors for neglecting veterinary care.
