Two attractions in Erie have made it into the top five spots in separate categories for USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards.
In the category of “best indoor water park,” Splash Lagoon at 8091 Peach St., placed fifth. Ravine Flyer II from Waldameer Park at 220 Peninsula Drive, took fifth in voting for the “best roller coaster.”
The top four best indoor water parks include:
Kalahari Resorts with multiple locations;
Epic Water Indoor Waterpark at Grand Prairie, Texas;
Tropic Falls at OWA in Foley, Alabama;
Bavarian Blast Waterpark in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Three of the top five roller coasters, including the Ravine Flyer II, are located in Pennsylvania. The four other top coasters are:
Phoenix at Knoebels in Elysburg, Pennsylvania;
Phantom’s Revenge at Kennywood in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania;
Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri;
Mako at SeaWorld Orlando in Orlando, Florida.
What makes Splash Lagoon stand out
According to the USA Today 10Best rank description, Splash Lagoon is home to one of the biggest indoor wave pools in the Eastern United States.
The indoor water park also features unique water-centric attractions from rope courses to slides and the lazy river.
What makes Ravine Flyer II stand out
According to the 10Best website, the Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer Park & Water World is the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in Pennsylvania. The Ravine Flyer II features a 120-foot drop and reaches a top speed of 60 miles per hour.
The coaster crosses over Pennsylvania Route 832 through a bridge that mimics the path of the original Ravine Flyer from 1922.
