Two outstanding athletes were honored by the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association at the annual Ann Marie Simons Scholar-Athlete Breakfast at the Montdale Country Club on Wednesday.

Mountain View senior Addison Kilmer, an all-state basketball and All-Region volleyball player, and Valley View senior Jagger Roe, a three-sport standout, received this year’s scholarship awards.

The event recognizes outstanding achievement in academics, athletics, and community service and is held in honor of Simons, the late athletic director at Wallenpaupack. Simons spent her entire life dedicated to athletics and advocated for students who exemplified excellence in the classroom, displayed sportsmanship, and received scholastic achievement.

Each school nominated a male and female athlete for consideration by the committee, and the LIAA recognized them as outstanding scholar-athletes.

Kilmer’s resume included being a two-time Pennsylvania Sports Writers Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year in both Class 1A and Class 2A. The 6-foot-1 senior’s biggest impact came on the basketball court, leading Mountain View to four straight District 2 championships and two classification levels (Class 1A and Class 2A). She finished her career with 2,271 points, which ranks second in Lackawanna League history behind Amber Jacobs of Abington Heights (2,433); 1,396 rebounds; 518 blocks; 268 steals; and 171 3-pointers.

In addition to basketball, Kilmer was a standout in girls’ volleyball. A two-time All-Region middle hitter and outside hitter, she led Mountain View to the District 2 Class 1A championship. She had 259 kills, 149 blocks, 133 digs, and 78 service points with 20 aces and finished her career with 723 kills and 382 blocks.

Kilmer also competed in golf and softball, where she was a league all-star, and received 13 varsity letters. She served as a team captain in volleyball and basketball.

In school, Kilmer was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in Yearbook, Student Government, Envirothon, and the Mentorship Program. She will attend East Stroudsburg University, pursue a degree in middle-level education with a math concentration, and play basketball.

At Valley View, Roe was a letterwinner in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. He also served as team captain in all three sports.

As a basketball standout, Roe helped Valley View win the District 2 Class 4A championship and reach the PIAA Class 4A semifinals as a junior and the runner-up finish in the District 2 Class 4A tournament this past season.

This spring, Roe is second on the Cougars with 82 kills and 94 service points and has 11 blocks and 16 digs in boys’ volleyball.

Roe is a member of the Student Council, Spanish Club, Math Honor Society, Class Secretary, National Honor Society, State/Light Crew for theater, NEIU Scholastic Team, Youth Sports Camp Volunteer, and referee. He is also a member of the Valley View Maintenance Staff, according to his nomination bio.

Jagger will attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study computer science.

“It is really cool, and it is an honor to get this award,” Roe said. “I put in a lot of work on and off the court. I have always had a desire to learn. It is something that I take pride in. The balancing part is something that I felt the need to do, and do my best at both.”
