MT. PENN BOROUGH, Pa. – A former Mt. Penn Borough council member accused of rape and sexual assault has been found not guilty of most of the charges against him.
Roger Stief Jr., who was charged last year with thirty counts of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault and related offenses, was found not guilty by a jury this week of nearly all charges, with the exception of two counts of simple assault.
Stief was initially charged with raping and physically assaulting a female victim known to him on several occasions, beginning in October 2024.
Stief was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in county jail with credit for 221 days served, followed by two years’ probation.
According to records, Stief was sworn in as a council member in 2022 and his resignation was unanimously accepted at the July 29, 2025 council business meeting.
