LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An incident that started in Carbondale led police on a high-speed chase down the Casey Highway that ended with a car crashing in Scranton and the suspect is on the run on Tuesday night.
It all started around 1:00 p.m. in Carbondale near South Main Street and 7th Avenue.
28/22 News captured video from the Casey Highway, where the suspect’s car was seen speeding. Later, our crews were on scene where the same suspected vehicle crashed into a parked car on Taylor Avenue in Scranton.
Information is limited at this time, and a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter was seen searching the area.
Prescott Elementary has issued a notice to parents that students will be dismissed early due to the active police investigation. The Scranton District stated, “the building has been placed on secure. We will keep you updated as to when students will be dismissed. The bus is currently being held at John G. Whittier Elementary School.”

Prescot Elementary and Northeast Intermediate Schools were briefly put on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted just before 2:30 p.m.
It is unclear at this point if the suspect has been arrested.
There are still plenty of unanswered questions, like what led to the chase, how many people are involved, and if there is a threat to the public at this time.
