BERN TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Police in Berks County gathered at the police memorial to honor law enforcers we lost this year.
The Fraternal Order of Police hosts this service in Bern Township every May.
They honor law enforcers who worked in Berks County and have died, including 18 who made the ultimate sacrifice.
This year, organizers say they added six names to the memorial, including two active officers and a recent retiree.
“Over the years more and more names that were going on were names that I worked with that were mentors, that were people that I looked up to, and it’s, you know, to hear the names and hear them honored for what they did and how they served their community means a lot both to myself and the families of those officers,” said Joseph Brown, president of the Berks FOP.
May is widely recognized as National Police Month.
