EXETER TWP., Pa. — Walking around what is left of this home on Claire Drive in Exeter Township, the damage is still everywhere. Broken windows and memories left behind.
Family friend Nick Sarro says Daniel Oister, who lived here, died this week at age 80 after recent health issues. The fire itself did not cause his death. But it comes just weeks after the family lost their home.
“It upsets me. It really upsets me. You know, to see the devastation and then have them pass away,” Sarro said.
You probably remember this dramatic video, when firefighters rescued Dan’s son-in-law through a window during the fire.
We’re told he is now recovering at a nursing home, while the rest of the family is staying in a hotel.
Nick says that is why a GoFundMe has been started.
“They need assistance. You know, honestly, people could say, well, how about the insurance? Well, you know what? That doesn’t take care of the immediate need. It doesn’t take care of memories that are lost,” Sarro said.
He says the family now needs support more than ever.
