The Pittsburgh Steelers are cutting ties with running back and return man Raheem Blackshear, they announced on Tuesday. He signed with the team three weeks ago, and now they are moving on.

Known as ‘speedy’ when he played at Archbishop Wood in Warminster, Pennsylvania, Blackshear will help ease the Steelers’ concerns at kick returner with rookie Kaleb Johnson struggling to take to that part of the game.

The Steelers had already elevated running back Trey Sermon twice to take on kick returns and only have one more elevation for him. Blackshear was in contention for that role, but wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams has taken that over the last few weeks.

Blackshear has 52 rushes for 203 yards and three touchdowns across 41 NFL games. He has 66 career kick returns and 23 career punt returns over his three NFL seasons.

Blackshear was an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in the 2022 NFL Draft. He originally signed with the Buffalo Bills before the Carolina Panthers snapped him up. Blackshear spent 2022 through 2024 with the Panthers organization before joining the Tennessee Titans this season.
