Erie airport officials said Friday that United Airlines representatives will contact travelers who booked flights for the direct Chicago service. Affected passengers will have the option to rebook or receive a full refund, according to Airport Executive Director Derek Martin.
Furniture is scheduled to arrive in Erie today as crews prepare airport counters for the return of United Airlines service following the postponement.
Flights that would connect Erie International Airport with Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport have been postponed, according to Erie airport officials on Thursday.
United Airlines’ direct service between Erie and Chicago was originally scheduled to begin June 1, but that launch has now been pushed back to Oct. 25.
Airport Executive Director Derek Martin said the delay is tied to a Federal Aviation Administration order reducing flights.
The FAA order is also affecting American Airlines service between Erie and Chicago. Those flights were supposed to begin May 22 but have now been delayed by two weeks until June 4.
The FAA on April 20 put out flight restrictions impacting O’Hare, prompting both airlines to reduce flights.
Erie is not alone. Other small airports are also experiencing postponements and, in some cases, cancellations of planned service.
