A former Mount Borough councilman accused of raping a woman has been acquitted of nearly all of the 30 counts he was facing.
Roger L. Stief Jr., 50, was found not guilty on multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault and related offenses following a jury trail this week in Berks County Court. He was found guilty on two counts of simple assault.
For those convictions, Stief was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in the county jail with credit for 221 days served, followed by two years of probation.
Stief had been accused a raping a woman at his home in the 100 block of North 25th Street several times starting in October 2024.
Stief was elected as a borough council member in November 2021. He resigned his post in July after being charged by Central Berks Regional police.
