For travelers who booked a flight on the now defunct Spirit Airlines, Allegiant is one of many airlines offering some relief.

The budget carrier said Saturday that it would temporarily hold airfares steady on routes that overlapped with Spirit. Since Spirit did not serve Lehigh Valley International Airport, that offer won’t be available from there.

Spirit permanently shut down operations Saturday after 34 years in business.

The nearest airport that comes under the offer is Atlantic City, New Jersey, with routes to a handful of Florida destinations, including Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Allegiant will also offer Spirit customers 50% back in Allways rewards points on qualifying itineraries rebooked with Allegiant using the code ALLWAYSTHERE on the airline’s website.

“We recognize that uncertainty like this can be stressful for travelers, and while our current flight schedule only overlaps with some of the affected routes, our priority is to help reaccommodate passengers as much as we possibly can,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer. “Providing reliable and affordable service to travelers is what we do best, and our team is ready and able to assist.”

Regionally, Spirit offered service from Philadelphia International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Legacy carriers that serve LVIA are also offering rescue deals:

• American Airlines has put rescue fares into place on Spirit routes where it also offers nonstop service.

• Delta Air Lines said it was offering reduced, nonrefundable rescue fares for a limited time to help travelers book last-minute flights. It said these options also apply to service between the U.S. and Latin America cities.

• United Airlines has set up a website where Spirit customers who booked on a canceled flight can find price-capped, one-way tickets from cities that were served by Spirit, including Newark. Those using this offer must give a Spirit confirmation number, proof of purchase for travel between May 2-16 and a United MileagePlus number.
